Porch Life takes to the road

for the first time

June through August 2018!!

Some places on our route include Jazz Fest 2018 in our hometown of New Orleans, the Eaux Claires Festival in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, locations in Detroit, New York City, The Kennedy Center in Washington DC, Asheville NC, and more pop-ups and shows along the way!

WHAT IS PORCH LIFE?? Porch Life is a mobile, explorable, multi-level Music Box structure featuring eleven new instrumental works of art — the most of any of our houses.

Porch Life is about gathering places between the indoors and outdoors, twilight hours spent together between daytime and nighttime, and the evolutionary life of a house from genesis to ruin. Sitting on stoops, swinging on porch swings and other natural gestures will sonically bring this structure to life.

Porch Life rings in at about 4500 lbs, and 21 feet long x 14 feet deep x 21 feet high when unfolded.

After the tour, this structure and other new artworks will come home to the Music Box Village – adding a whole new dimension to the range of sounds you can make. New Orleans locals, families, and hundreds of schoolchildren will visit Porch Life throughout our Fall & Spring Seasons.

INSTRUMENTS & SOUNDS: Airlift is excited to debut the Quintronics Weather Panel, a large analog synthesizer controlled via a set of sensors by the changes in weather. The circuitry employs sun, rain, wind, temperature, moon, and lightning to affect a chordal drone. You can hear a 24/7 live stream at Weather For the Blind.

Quintron is an inventor of instruments, frequent collaborator, and musical director/conductor of large-scale shows since the inception of the Music Box project. Other sonic interventions by contributors Delaney Martin, Taylor Shepherd, Christian Repaal, Meschiya Lake, Marshall Hawks and our Detroit collaborator Lindsay Karty include harp, chime and reverb balustrades, triggered steps, bim bap and marimba railings, a Metronome Swing and an Electric Curtain.
